Located 30 minutes from downtown Boise is Cervidae peak. A spectacular 360 degree vista on Lucky Peak Reservoir. Covered in wildflowers during the springtime. It’s not exactly a casual stroll in the park.

Cervidae Peak is one of four Grand Slam Boise hikes. It may look friendly, but it is deceivingly steep. This out and back trail follows a ridge line giving 360 degree views of Lucky Peak, Robie Creek, and the surrounding mountains. This trail is part of the Grand Slam hikes of Boise, 4 intense hikes used for conditioning big projects like Mount Borah. Families, athletes, and individuals will love the view on this hike no matter the time of year. The absolute best time to hike this trail is in the spring, you will be surrounded by native wildflowers.

Getting there
East Route (Main trailhead)
Located 17 miles from Boise, get on I-84 East and take exit 57 onto Gowen Road toward Idaho City, SH-21. Follow the road for 13 miles before turning right onto E Spring Shores Road. Follow the road for 2 miles arriving at roadside parking on the right. The trail head is directly across the road.
Keep In Mind
Cervidae trail provides no shade until the top. There is also no water sources along the trail so pack your own water. In the summer the temperatures get really hot, so try and start early in the morning. The trail is wide, steep, and a little rocky so watch your step! In the winter you will most likely find snow on this hike, bring the appropriate gear. This is a steep hike and considered challenging by many.
